The short version
FactOrHype has no accounts. We don't ask for your name, email or phone number. We process the video links you send us to check the claims in them, and we use basic analytics to improve the app. We don't sell your data.
What we collect
- Links you submit. When you share or paste a TikTok, Instagram or YouTube link, we send it to our server to run the check. We keep the finished check for up to 72 hours so the same viral video loads instantly for the next person.
- A random app ID. We use Firebase Anonymous Authentication to create a random identifier for your install. It protects our server from abuse and enforces fair-use limits. It is not tied to your identity.
- Usage analytics. We use Mixpanel and Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used – for example, which screens are opened and whether a check finished. These events don't include the content of the videos you check.
- Crash reports. Firebase Crashlytics sends technical crash data so we can fix bugs.
- Purchases. Subscriptions are handled by Apple. We use Apphud to confirm whether your subscription is active. We never see your payment details.
How a check works
Our server retrieves the public post you shared (caption, video and creator handle) through third-party data providers, and sends it to Google's Gemini API for analysis. The result is our own written analysis with a link to the original post. We don't publish, re-post or store copies of anyone's video beyond what's needed to run the check.
Where your data lives
Your check history is stored on your device. Server-side data is processed by Cloudflare, Google (Firebase, Gemini), Mixpanel and Apphud, each under their own privacy policies.
Tracking
If you allow tracking when iOS asks, we may use your device's advertising identifier to measure which ads bring people to FactOrHype. If you don't, we don't. You can change this anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Your choices
- Delete your history anytime in the app: Settings → Delete my data.
- Deleting the app removes your local history and random app ID.
- Email us to ask about or delete server-side data linked to your app ID.
Children
FactOrHype is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
